Megacruiser
Hi all. As promised, here is the scanned images from the Japanese magazine
I was talking about. I will give a little commentary on stuff I have noticed
and what the article said in Japanese. It was very fluffy without much meat
so I have only taken the substance. I have added some info that I gathered
from the Toyota site. I plan to link in some images from that site and
give the translations.
- Little mirror on hood is required in Japan for trucks.
- If you look really closely, you can see an air line on the rear
wheel only (rear wheel "CTIS").
- Note the lack of loops on the hood while the military version does.
Here is collage of sub-images from the magazine:
- 2170mm (85.4") overall, 2050mm (80.7") internal.
- Ground clearance 420mm (16.5").
- 4 wheel independent, double wishbone.
- Wrap around dash. 4 sp auto.
- Inboard discs.
- Folding center seat in rear.
- Optional tilt/removeable sunroof.
- Fold down steps to cargo area.
- 4.1L 4 cyl. intercooled diesel. 35 kg-m (250 lbs-ft) @1800 rpm.
- 9,620,000 yen (~$90,000US)
- Out of phase 4 wheel steering.
- 2 sp FT xfer case, lockable.
- Torsen diffs but electronically lockable (ala TLC).
- 600 kg (1320 lbs payload).
- 37" tires.
- Torsion front springs.
- Top left - Mitsubishi version of the M151.
- Top center - JSDF MegaCruisers ala M998s.
- Top right - note that the lower control arm does not hang down.
- Center - SDF MC - note the airlift hooks on the hood, different grill.
The rag next had a page on the Hummers. Pretty self explanatory. The
Top left tan HMMWV is not a US military version. It's some kind of
prototype. Note that it has CTIS which the US military does NOT
use (see picture on right).
The last page showed some "jeeps" from other nations:
- LR Defender, mid. 80's production.
- Mercedes GWagon.
- Air transportable version of the Mercedes GWagon.
- (left) Italian OTO merara "Gorogona"(?). Amphibious, FT 4wd. Don't know
the name in Italian so could not translate very well from Japanese. Italy
also uses the Lamborgini Cheetah.
- (upper right) French Overland A3 introduced in 1988. Basic model.
10 years in development.
- (lower right)Panaaru/Peugot P4. Based on Peugot 4wd w/ small arms
protection kit.
- LR MRCV (Multi Role Combat Vehicle). Based on D90.
